Meet our newest associate: Katie Guevara

Welcome, Katie!

Catherine Guevara

On June 12, 2021, the associate community of the Albany Province of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet celebrated a virtual commitment ceremony for their members. It included the first commitment of Catherine “Katie” Guevara as a CSJ Associate. Katie became familiar with the associate community through introductory group sessions offered at The College of Saint Rose, which was founded by the Albany sisters.

Katie graciously agreed to answer a few questions involving her decision to join our associate community.

How did you learn about our associates? Who invited you to attend a meeting?

I first learned about the CSJ associates from a colleague who was working at The College of Saint Rose. I admired and respected him so much. I was flattered that he asked me to join.

The timing was very good. I had had a year in my life when I had lost five people in my family: my father, three uncles and an aunt—all in the span of 10 months. I had time to think about life’s priorities, and I wanted to fill my time with things that were meaningful. The associates fit the bill to perfection.

What was your first impression?

I loved the family feel. I looked forward to sharing our readings, eating lunch together and discussing ways God was present in our lives.

What kept you coming/joining through Zoom meetings?

I continued to participate because I kept learning from the group members. It was a nice break for me, and I love sitting together, sharing my day and a simple meal with my group.

What made you decide that you would like to make your first commitment?

I wanted to serve others. I felt I could live the charism. I wanted a closer relationship with God in my life.
