Stillness by Sister Mary Ellen Putnam, CSJ

by Sister Mary Ellen Putnam, CSJ

The birds have gone,

Journeying to their

Winter nesting place;

Their morning song

The dawn.

Only stillness.

Ice crystals fall

Into snowflakes.

No two are alike.

They just free-fall

Into a soft, white blanket

Of stillness.

Oh, yes,

The air is crisp.

And the sun is high.

But, have I noticed?

Will I stop for just

One little minute to

Reverence winter stillness?
