The Heart of God

“The heart of God, a Trinity of Relationship, holds together all that exists in a community of relationships that constitutes the web of life. We breathe in that Communion and with it the hopes, yearnings, pains and struggled of creation, each other, the Dear Neighbor and the Church.”
--2007 Acts of Chapter, Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet

Vocation Links

The following links may be helpful to those of you who are discerning vocations to religious life as well as to  those who are involved in supporting vocations. The links contain information from books, articles, websites and webcasts. Be sure to visit again to discover new links!

Giving Voices is an organization made up of Catholic Sisters in their 20s-40s from all over the United States.  The website includes an online magazine, written by these younger members of various congregations of women religious.

From the Pews in the Back is a book about young women and Catholicism. The book, published by Dugan & Owens, and the website include insights into how young Catholic women see and define themselves in today’s world. What is their relationship to the Church? What are their struggles and joys? In addition to general reflections, the website features a blog, a reading guide and a calendar of events.

The Church in the 21st Century contains online resources for the renewal of the Catholic Church in the United States. Sponsored by Boston College, the site features critical issues in the Church today. One of the goals of the website is to find creative and energizing ways to share the faith, especially with younger Catholics. Be sure to check the site on and after March 31 when there will be a webcast with Kate Dugan and Jennifer Owens, authors of the above book, "From the Pews in the Back." Owens and Dugan will discuss such questions as: How do young women see themselves in relation to the Church? What place are young women claiming in the Church? What does it mean to be young, Catholic and female in today's Church?

Souls in Transition is a book by Christian Smith and Patricia Snell (Oxford Press, 2009). Subtitled “The Religious and Spiritual Lives of Emerging Adults,” the book examines the religious orientations of 18-23 year olds who are in a period of what Smith calls “emerging adulthood.”
