Sister Ramona Grieb, CSJ, (Sister Elizabeth Rose)
Sister Ramona Grieb, CSJ (Sister Elizabeth Rose), 82, died Saturday, January 23, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Provincial House, Latham. She had been a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet for the past 61 years.
Sister Ramona was born on August 6, 1933, in Syracuse, NY, daughter of the late Rodger and Elizabeth Kirchner Grieb. After graduating from North High School in Syracuse, Sister Ramona worked in the bookkeeping department of the Josef Sidney Accounting Firm. On August 15, 1955, she entered the novitiate of the Sisters of St. Joseph and professed final vows on August 6, 1962. Sister Ramona received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in reading, both from The College of Saint Rose. For 37 years, she served in the ministry of education as teacher, administrator and campus minister in schools of the Albany and Syracuse Dioceses. In addition, Sister Ramona served as regional superior for the Sisters of St. Joseph.
Sister Ramona is survived by her nephew-in-law, James Bannon; by her grandnieces, Kim (Erick) Summers and Kelly (Glenn) Dixon; by her great-grandnephews and niece, Brandon, Evan and Katherine Summers; by her dear friend, Sister Anne Catherine Gratton, CSJ; and by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. In addition to her parents, Sister Ramona was predeceased by her brother, David Grieb; her sister, Juanita D’Accurzio; and her niece, Cheryl Bannon.
Sister Ramona’s Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, January 30, at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of St. Joseph’s Provincial House, Latham.
