Sister Genevieve Greisler, CSJ


 

Sister Genevieve Greisler, CSJ (Sister Leon Marie), 98, a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet for 76 years, died March 3, 2005 at St. Joseph’s Provincial House, Latham, NY. Sister Genevieve had been a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet for 80 years.

Sister Genevieve was born in Schenectady on July 4, 1906, daughter of Peter and Mary Staudenmaier Greisler. After graduating from St. Joseph’s High School, she entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1929 and professed final vows in 1934. Sister Genevieve received a bachelor’s degree in German and a master’s degree in education from The College of Saint Rose. For 30 years she taught German, Latin and Business in schools in the Albany and Syracuse Dioceses and, for 25 years, served in various clerical positions at The College of Saint Rose. 
 
Sister Genevieve is predeceased by her parents and four brothers, George, Joseph, Edward and William; she is survived by nieces and nephews and her beloved Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.
 
Sister Genevieve’s Mass of Christian Burial was held March 6 in the chapel of St. Joseph’s Provincial House. Interment was in Our Lady Queen of Virgins Cemetery on the Provincial House Grounds.
