Sister Cecilia Elizabeth Tobin, CSJ


 Sister Cecilia Elizabeth Tobin, CSJ, (Sister William Cecilia), 72, died Friday, August 19, 2005, at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse.

Sister Cecilia was born on February 8, 1933, in Syracuse, daughter of the late William and Mary O’Connor Tobin. She graduated from EastwoodHigh School in 1950 and entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1951. Sister Cecilia received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree, both in history and political science, from The College of Saint Rose, Albany, and permanent certification in school administration from New York State. In addition, she took courses in religious education and parish ministry. Sister Cecilia taught in various schools in the Syracuse and Albany Dioceses and served as parish minister and director of religious education in parishes in both dioceses. Until last year, Sister Cecilia was director of religious education at St. Ann’s Parish, Manlius.
 
Sister Cecilia leaves two brothers, Eugene Tobin of Syracuse, and Leo Tobin of Canastota, and three sisters, Sister Louise Marie Tobin of Lisboa, Portugal, Kathleen Dowling of Wallingford, CT, and Patricia Tobin of Fayetteville. In addition, she leaves the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, with special mention of her dear friend and caregiver, Sister Helen Hart. Sister Cecilia was predeceased by her brother, William, and her sister, Frances.
 
Sister Cecilia’s funeral Mass took place Tuesday, August 23 at Blessed Sacrament Church, James Street, Syracuse. A committal service followed at St. Joseph’s Provincial House, Latham.
