Sister Ann Barbara Erwin, CSJ


Sister Ann Barbara Erwin, CSJ, 86, died Wednesday, August 31, 2005, in St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany. She had been a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet for 67 years.

Sister Ann was born on April 10, 1919, in Syracuse, New York, daughter of the late Michael and Ann Warner Erwin. After graduating from St. Patrick’s High School in 1937, she entered the Sisters of St. Joseph. Sister Ann received a bachelor’s degree in education from The College of Saint Rose and permanent certification in general science and biology from the New York State Education Department. She taught in elementary and secondary schools in the Albany and Syracuse Dioceses for nearly 40 years and then served as the business-record manager at St. Patrick’s School in Syracuse. In 1997, Sister Ann moved to St. Joseph’s Provincial House, Latham, where she did inservice work and generously shared of her time and talent.
 
Sister Ann Barbara is survived by her beloved sister, Margaret (Peggy) Lake of Syracuse, nieces and nephews, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet and many dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Edward.
 
Sister Ann Barbara’s Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, September 3 in the chapel of the Provincial House.
