Sister Louis Alena Wirmusky, CSJ
Sister Louis Alena Wirmusky, CSJ, the former Frances F. Wirmusky, 90, died Wednesday, December 21, 2005, at St. Joseph’s Provincial House in Latham. Sister Louis had been a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet for 68 years.
Sister Louis was born October 19, 1915, in Hoosick Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Louis and Helen Rimkunas Wirmusky. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls and entered the novitiate of the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1937. She received a bachelor’s degree in French and a master’s degree in education from The College of Saint Rose, Albany, and taught in schools in the Syracuse and Albany Dioceses for over 50 years. Upon retiring from teaching, Sister Louis volunteered her many talents as a tutor and library aide. She moved to St. Joseph’s Provincial House, Latham, in 1984, where she continued to bring her spirit of dedication, her deep spirituality and her gentle disposition to all whom she met.
Sister Louis Alena leaves her sister-in-law, Theresa Wirmusky, her nieces, Helen Laroche and Margaret Coutinho, her cousins, Regina Hubbard and Mary Kerbelis, several cousins and friends and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. She was predeceased by her dear brother, Walter, and by many members of her beloved Sisters of St. Joseph.
Sister Louis Alena’s funeral Liturgy was held Friday, December 23 in the chapel of St. Joseph’s Provincial House, Latham. Interment was in Our Lady Queen of Virgins Cemetery on the Provincial House grounds.
