Sister Regina William Warhurst, CSJ

Sister Regina William Warhurst, CSJ, 87, the former Elinor Theresa Warhurst, died Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at St. Joseph’s Provincial House, Latham, NY. Sister Regina had been a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet for 54 years.

Sister Regina William was born August 11, 1918 in Albany, the daughter of the late Archibald and Regina Sexton Warhurst. She graduated from AlbanyHigh School and worked for 15 years in the insurance and sales fields. In 1952, Sister Regina entered the novitiate of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Troy, NY. She received a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in English, both from The College of Saint Rose. During her years as a Sister of St. Joseph, Sister Regina taught business and English in various high schools in the Syracuse and Albany Dioceses, including St. Mary’s Academy, Glens Falls, St. John the Evangelist High School, Syracuse, and Seton Catholic High School, Binghamton. In addition, Sister Regina served as an accountant and librarian at St. Mary’s Hospital, Amsterdam, and as a secretary at St. Mary’s School, Hudson.
Sister Regina inspired her students and colleagues with her keen business acumen and delighted her friends with her sense of humor and her love of music and dance. Her strength of spirit and her dedication to God and the Sisters of St. Joseph will be a lasting legacy.
Sister Regina William leaves her dearly loved niece, Kay Derengowski, and Kay’s family, of Lake San Marcos, CA, and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, with special mention of her beloved friend, Bettie Reddish of Albany, and Sister Ann Therese Flynn, Sister Regina’s faithful friend from her young days and devoted caretaker in her later days. She was predeceased by her dear sisters and brothers, Elizabeth, Regina, Mary, John and Archibald, by her niece, Jean, and by many friends in the Sisters of St. Joseph.
Sister Regina’s funeral Liturgy was held Saturday, February in the chapel of St. Joseph’s Provincial House, Latham. Interment was in Our Lady Queen of Virgins Cemetery on the Provincial House grounds.
