Raised in Green Island, she graduated from Catholic Central High School, Troy, NY. On March 19, 1956, Sister Georgine entered the novitiate of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Troy, NY, and professed final vows on August 6, 1963. She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from The College of Saint Rose. Sister Georgine taught for 30 years in schools in the Albany and Syracuse Dioceses, including: St. Lucy’s School, Syracuse; St. Francis de Sales School, Utica; St. Peter’s School, Saratoga Springs; St. Brigid’s School, Watervliet; St. Ann’s School, Albany; and Cathedral Academy, Albany, where she taught for 19 years. In 2010, she moved to St. Joseph’s Provincial House after living in Cathedral Convent, Albany, for 36 years.

Sister Georgine was determined, straightforward and loyal. A loving and attentive aunt and sister, she took great joy in caring for her niece and nephew. Capable and precise, Sister Georgine was an excellent teacher of math. She was an avid sports enthusiast, with a special penchant for horse racing, the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Sister Georgine enjoyed nothing better than a good card game, a subtle joke and a warm, sunny day. Devoted to the Blessed Mother, she found great comfort and peace in praying the rosary. Suffering from considerable chronic pain during her life, Sister Georgine tried to meet the challenges of daily living with courage and perseverance. She leaves behind a legacy of facing struggles with persistence and pain with tenacity.
