Sister Elaine was born in Albany on October 13, 1916, daughter of the late Joseph and Anne Dougherty Breslin. For 28 years, she taught first grade in schools in the Albany and Syracuse Dioceses where she considered it a great privilege to begin children on the road to reading and to help prepare them for First Communion. For 36 years, she brought the same remarkable spirit to the field of religious education and parish social services.

The last fifteen years of Sister Elaine’s religious life were marked by untiring service to the people of St. James Parish, Albany, and to the residents and staff of Child’s Nursing Home. In her nearly seven decades as a Sister of St. Joseph, Sister Elaine touched thousands of persons by her warm and sincere interest in them and by her deep love of God in the Eucharist.

Sister Elaine Marie leaves her beloved niece and nephews and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. She was predeceased by her sisters, Josephine, Rose, Eileen, Anne (Sister Anne Patrice) and Margot (Mocky), and by many dear friends in the Sisters of St. Joseph.
