Sister Berenice McLoughlin, CSJ


Sister Berenice McLoughlin, CSJ, 86, (formerly Sister Vincent Agnes), died Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at St. Joseph's Provincial House, Latham. She was a Sister of St. Joseph for 67 years.

Sister Berenice was born in Troy, the daughter of the late George F. McLoughlin and Mary F. Kane McLoughlin. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1938 and entered the novitiate of the Sisters of St. Joseph. She professed her final vows in 1944.
 
Sister Berenice received a bachelor's degree in German from The College of Saint Rose, followed by additional studies at Middlebury College in Vermont, the University of Scranton, and in Munich, Germany. Sister Berenice later pursued studies in theology. She taught both German and religious studies for many years in the Catholic schools of the Albany and Syracuse Dioceses, including Catholic Central High School, St. Augustine's, and St. Patrick's in Troy. She retired to the Provincial House in 1994.
 
Sister Berenice is survived by several loving nieces and nephews and their families, who were so dear to her; many friends, and her beloved Sisters of St. Joseph. She was predeceased by her three brothers: George F. McLoughlin Jr., Vincent P. McLoughlin and Eugene M. McLoughlin; four sisters: Catherine Dusten, Betty DeChristopher, Sister Clara Agnes McLoughlin and Mary Quillinan.
 
Sister Berenice's Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, July 29, 2006, in the chapel at St. Joseph's Provincial House, Latham. Interment was in Our Lady Queen of Virgins Cemetery on the Provincial House grounds.
