Sister Eleanor Ceccucci, CSJ

Sister Eleanor Ceccucci, CSJ (Sister Martha Augusta), 68, died Saturday, January 6, 2007, at St. Joseph’s Provincial House, Latham. Sister Eleanor would have celebrated her 50th anniversary as a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet on March 19, 2007.

Sister Eleanor was born in Cohoes on December 14, 1938, oldest daughter of the late Augusto and Martha Picard Ceccucci. After graduating from KevenyMemorialAcademy, Sister Eleanor entered the novitiate of the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1957. She received a bachelor’s degree in business education and a master’s degree in education, both from The College of Saint Rose. Sister Eleanor taught in several schools in the Albany Diocese, including St. Columba’s, Schenectady; CatholicCentralHigh School, Troy; St. Patrick’s High School, Catskill; and St. Mary’s High School, Hudson. For over 30 years, Sister Eleanor served in the Treasurer’s Office of the Sisters of St. Joseph, as a staff member, as Provincial House treasurer, as province treasurer and as office manager.
As a dedicated business teacher, Sister Eleanor encouraged students to develop their practical and strategic skills. As the treasurer of the Sisters of St. Joseph, she demonstrated not only her brilliant business acumen but also her kind and approachable spirit. As a loving sister and friend, Sister Eleanor had a heart characterized by loyalty, steadfastness and devotion. Most importantly, Sister Eleanor’s calm, courageous acceptance of her impending death inspired her family and friends and reflected her deep and abiding faith.
Sister Eleanor is survived by her beloved siblings, all of whom had the joy of being with Sister Eleanor in her last days: her brothers, Carl (Cheryl) of Plantation, FL, and Kenneth (Spencer) of Washington, DC; and her sister, Mary Ann, of Sunrise, FL. Also, Sister Eleanor leaves her uncles, Harold and David Ceccucci, her aunt, Eleanor McGrath, and their families; her brother-in-law, Michael Patregnani; many nieces, nephews, cousins and long-time friends; and the Sisters of St. Joseph. In addition to her parents, Sister Eleanor was predeceased by her dearly loved sister, Barbara Patregnani, and by many friends in the Sisters of St. Joseph.
Sister Eleanor’s funeral Liturgy was held Thursday, January 11 from the chapel of St. Joseph’s Provincial House, Latham. Interment was in Our Lady Queen of VirginsCemetery on the Provincial House grounds.
