Sister Joyce Blaney, CSJ


Sister Joyce Blaney, CSJ (Sister Margaret Ennis), 65, died Sunday, January 7, 2007, at St. Joseph’s Provincial House, Latham. Sister Joyce had been a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet for 43 years.

 Sister Joyce was born in Troy, NY, on December 1, 1941, the only child of Ennis Edward and Margaret Ryan Blaney. After graduating from CatholicCentralHigh School, she attended The College of Saint Rose for three years and entered the novitiate of the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1963. Subsequently, Sister Joyce received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in education, both from The College of Saint Rose. For over 25 years, she taught primary grades in schools of the Albany Diocese, including Cathedral School, St. Anthony’s School, St. Ann’s School and St. James School, all in Albany; and St. Jude’s School, Wyantskill. In addition, Sister Joyce taught primary grades in California, served as pastoral-care associate in California and in Villa Mary Immaculate in Albany and was a driver at St. Joseph’s Provincial House.
 
Sister Joyce had a great love for young children and spent many years teaching both the academic skills and the values of honesty, respect and faith. Sister Joyce’s caring, patient and understanding spirit continued in her ministries of pastoral care and driving where she generously shared her gifts with the elderly. Whether Sister Joyce was teaching the very young or comforting the very old, she brought compassion to all God’s people through her kindness and sensitivity.
 
Sister Joyce is survived by her dear cousin, Adele Leonard, of Loudonville, by many cousins and friends and by the Sisters of St. Joseph. She was predeceased by her parents, Ennis and Margaret; by her cousin, Ann Kenney, and by many friends in the Sisters of St. Joseph.
 
Sister Joyce’s funeral Liturgy was held Friday, January 12 from the chapel of St. Joseph’s Provincial House, Latham. Interment was in Our Lady Queen of VirginsCemetery on the Provincial House grounds.
