Sister Rosanne Miller, CSJ

Sister Rosanne Miller, CSJ, 90, died Tuesday, September 22, at Albany Medical Center. Sister Rosanne had been a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet for 71 years.

Sister Rosanne, the former Angela Maryette Miller, was born October 25, 1918 in Utica, NY, daughter of the late John and Rosanne McCuddin Miller. She graduated as valedictorian of the Class of 1937 from St. Francis de Sales High School and entered the novitiate of the Sisters of St. Joseph on March 19, 1938. Sister Rosanne received a bachelor’s degree in Latin and a master’s degree in French, both from The College of Saint Rose. For nearly 50 years, Sister Rosanne taught in schools in the Albany and Syracuse Dioceses. For the past 22 years, Sister Rosanne has served at St. Joseph’s Provincial House in various in-service ministries, including that of sacristan and prayer witness.
Sister Rosanne was a dedicated educator with high standards and expectations. With her sound knowledge of both Latin and French, she enjoyed the challenge of teaching the integration of classical and modern language and culture. A devout woman, blessed with firmness of purpose, deep faith and a dry wit, Sister Rosanne delighted friends and family with stories of her travels and anecdotes from a vast array of topics. She leaves a lasting legacy of love of God and devotion to her family and her religious community.
Sister Rosanne is survived by her beloved sister, Betty Anne Miller of Utica; her nieces and nephews: Jack (Jean) Miller; Rosanne (Tom) Furmanski; Kathleen (Dave) Wells; Diane (Bob) Van Pelt; Robert (June) Miller; Sue (Ralph) Rozelle; Paul, Carole, Kenneth and Mark Miller; and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. In addition to her parents, Sister Rosanne was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and John Miller; a nephew, Thomas Miller, and many friends in the Sisters of St. Joseph.
Sister Rosanne’s funeral Liturgy was celebrated on Monday, September 28 in the chapel of St. Joseph’s Provincial House, Latham. Interment was in Our Lady Queen of Virgins Cemetery on the Provincial House grounds.
