Cities: Busy Places, Friendly Faces

Preschoolers (ages 3.5 to 5 years old) enrolled in Carondelet Music Center enjoyed the Kindermusik curriculum, Cities: Busy Places, Friendly Faces, this past spring.

As part of their learning experience, the children engaged in weekly themes that focused on the hustle and bustle of a City Square, integrating movement, singing, instrument-play, and dramatic-play. We took pretend trips to shops in the town square, sang songs about the broom man, the escalator, and, of course, a lost dog.

We dramatically took on roles of area artists who offer entertainment in local parks: a saxophonist, a mime, and a painter. Each week, parents were offered suggestions to extend the musical experience to home music-making, engaging the whole family in art projects, musical games, and sound exploration that foster an aesthetic spirit and nurture a musical childhood.

Watch the slideshow below to get a glimpse of the breadth of this semester’s class experience with Sister Patricia. Take note also of the extraordinary involvement and commitment of our wonderful Kindermusik families; the children would not have accomplished such beautiful work without the dedication of parents who engage in active art- and music-making at home with their children.
